Colour-Sergeant Conversion
05 April 2004
This Colour-Sergeant has been converted from a British Artillery Crew (88-009) model.
Very simply, his left arm was bent upwards into a position where a thin
needle could be held as the shaft of the standard. The colours were made
from tin foil, folded a few times to give it some strength. It was painted
and then could be bent into a 'flutternig' position, before being glued to the shaft.
During this period the colours were not often carried into battle, and several incidents led their use to become ceremonial only. However, in the battles in which they were carried, they were often the focus of incidents and heroic actions.
